I have over 30 years’ experience in leadership roles and have founded five businesses, one of which launched in 2003, grew to £500K turnover within a year and reached an £8m turnover.  I dropped out of university at 19, got a job in catering and started a career in hospitality. I was thrown in at the deep end, managing a team from a very young age.

I went on to set up an international business unit from scratch which I grew to $10m revenue, building an effective and diverse team along the way. To consolidate that experience, I took a year out to do an MBA full time, achieving a distinction for my dissertation; while working as a consultant for British Airways; before entering the world of entrepreneurship.

My businesses have included a Tour Operator, a Florist, a Travel Agency and an Outsourcing Agency before becoming a Business Coach. I am also a volunteer mentor for the Kings Trust.   I have been coaching and mentoring people for many years and have learnt that it takes a balanced approach, providing realistic, grounded advice; encouraging my clients to develop confidence in themselves and their own ideas while giving them a clear structure and tools to support them.

What Travel Taught Me About

People, Culture and Growth

Travel didn't just show me the world; it taught me how to understand people.

Working in the travel industry gave me a front row seat to human behaviours. I experienced different cultures, expectations, communication styles and ways of thinking. I learned quickly that what motivates one person can be completely different for another; and that real connection comes from listening, adapting, and meeting people where they are. This became one of the most valuable foundations of my business journey.

Whether it’s leading a team, or working with clients; success always comes back to people. Understanding what drives them, what holds them back, and how to bring out their best. Travel gave me that lens early on. It taught me empathy, awareness, and how to build trust across different perspectives - skills that no textbook or classroom could replicate. And it’s those same skills that underpin how I help business owners grow today.

Attended my first Expo in Berlin in 1989 just as the Berlin Wall was falling and have a bit of graffitied wall to prove it!

Escorted a group of families to Finland to meet Father Christmas and was then responsible for the aftermath of the hotel burning down......

Went to Tokyo for a conference with my international colleagues and took part in some traditional customs; as well as a trip to Disneyland!

Backpacked around Thailand before the days of internet or mobile phones with just a Lonely Planet Guidebook

Contracted budget hotels all over the world - one trip took me from London to Los Angeles to Sydney to Auckland to Christchurch to Hong Kong to Delhi!

Travelled in luxury on the Orient Express from London to Venice; staying in a beautiful hotel suite overlooking the Grand Canal.
